It's National Library Lovers' Month!

Updated: Feb 14, 2018

Libraries are some of the most important places in the life of someone with a love of reading. For many, it represents a way to obtain books, regardless of financial status. For others, it may be a way to find books with large text, which may be otherwise hard to find.

A lot of people use the library for assistance with research, especially those without access to a computer or the internet. Libraries also have a huge number of resources, as well as memberships to sites such as Ancestry.com, online learning sites, sites to obtain e-books, audiobooks, magazines, and newspapers, and streaming services (for movies, TV, and music).

Libraries also generally host events for children, classes, health and wellness classes, arts and crafts, even help learning about how to run a business, use a computer, or do your taxes. And there are SO MANY MORE wonderful events that they offer to the community - many free of charge!

Did you know that your library may even have resources for writers? The Metropolitan Library System, for example, has an entire section JUST FOR WRITERS and even has a site to allow new authors to share their books with potential readers!

Some ways you might celebrate National Library Lovers' Month:

  1. Send a thank you note to your local librarians

  2. Donate to your local library (books or money)

  3. Volunteer your time

  4. If you haven't already, introduce your child to the library this month, and get them their very own library card.

Two holidays this month that coincide with National Library Lovers' Month:

  • On February 3rd, celebrate Take Your Child To The Library Day by doing just that!

  • On February 26th, go to your library and pick up a fairy tale book for Tell A Fairy Tale Day!

How will YOU celebrate National Library Lovers' Month? Share your stories using the hashtag #loveyourlibrary.
